MaxLister is a lightweight tool especially designed for those who need to index the contents of hard drives, floppy disks, CDs, DVDs and all kinds of removable storage devices. With it you are able to create complete and detailed lists with all the items that exist on any of the previously mentioned storage types.
Rudimentary but practical interface
The application has summed up a decent amount of years since its last revision, more than a decade, and has an interface that was appealing in the Windows XP days. So, as far as GUI is concerned, there’s not much to catch your attention but as far as actual practicality goes, MaxLister doesn't disappoint.
Indeed it maintains a rather rigid way of doing things but it works none the less. You can easily choose a folder or drive to index, select the method for the task at hand and then export the virtual drive to your computer.
Create a virtual image of any connected drive
MaxLister enables you to access any removable device that is connected to your computer and create an image of it which you can then use to locate a file you need.
The application proves very helpful if, for example, you’re an engineer that wants to map an entire archive of projects which is stored on an external hard drive. In a couple of seconds you are able to generate and export a detailed hierarchical view of all the folders, sub-folders and files that exist. Moreover, it’s possible to save the virtual drive as an XML database or a text file meaning that you can easily open them and look for a document.
Browse virtual drives and search for files
MaxLister is capable of indexing large drives which normally contain a substantial amount of files and for this reason it also implements a practical and efficient means of browsing the virtual drives.
You can explore them as you would normally do using the Windows explorer, meaningly fast and easy. Since manually scanning through hundreds of documents can be time consuming, MaxLister implements a search function that allows you to quickly locate a file which is located inside the virtual drive.
Index drive content
To put things in perspective, despite its outdated interface and in some parts functionality, MaxLister is still a tool that can get the job done when it comes to creating virtual drives.

As you know, the South African Blood Service (SANBS) is facing a crisis. Currently SANBS estimates that it needs to raise an additional R5 billion (about $260 million) to meet its current needs. This means that the budget shortfall must be met.

Dr. Mark J. Cullis, our President, and his staff of dedicated and qualified staff are putting together the fundraising plan that is right for the South African economy and the needs of the blood service.

From the Sanctions to the Sanctions to the Sanctions: South Africa’s Blood Service at a Crossroads

Dr. Mark J. Cullis, SANBS’s president, explains that the extended economic sanctions being implemented by the international community on South Africa has put the blood service at a crossroads, between life and death.

If the economy collapses, tens of thousands of people will die in a matter of days. This would affect the blood service the most because more than 80% of SANBS’ blood and blood components are donated by the community.

After the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank announced in October 2008 that they were no longer lending to South Africa, the country became the first to lose its ‘stability’ rating. This means that South Africa is at risk of having the financial markets withdraw further funding and the commodities markets collapse. South Africa’s rand is already trading below the level needed for meaningful exchange of aid for goods. Food production could be affected by impeding the flow of funds between trading partners.

In March, SANBS received a letter of intent

What’s New In?

MaxLister is an independent utility for indexing the contents of drives, discs and directories. Its primary function is to make drive contents easily searchable by indexing file extensions and saving them in a file of your choice. It’s possible to save the index as a comma-separated file (CSV), as an array of lines in a text file or as a virtual drive image which can be used to locate a file. The tool supports hard drives, floppies and CDs/DVDs.

It’s not about the first post on the list nor the latest. It’s about whether the file is more important as a.txt file or a.doc file.

It’s also about being completely honest on what I find is most useful when searching online.

Text files are incredibly useful in their own right for sharing information in a rather easy to understand manner and are also a bit more versatile.

The ability to re-edit them without the hassle of having to re-post means that they are pretty much a permanent part of the info that is available and that in itself is somewhat invaluable.

I also think that when it comes to setting up any new system that it is a pretty small price to pay for a.txt file to be saved in the first instance. There is no slower way to set a system up than to have to re-edit a.txt file.

I know that.txt files are more easy to understand and easier to re-edit. I also know that it is impossible to find a user-friendly text editor (except for Notepad) and that even if you find one it will not be able to open certain types of files.

That’s not a problem with.txt files they can even open images (although I don’t recommend you do because that will reduce the quality of the image. However.txt can support bitmaps/pixels like.jpg).
